Fieldwasogiveup.Sevenhundredmilesmoreofcableswereordered，andamaskillwassettoworktodeviseabettermaefoutthelonglihevesselswerethreemilesapart，thecable，parted.Againitliced，butwhentheshipswereeightymilesapart，thetwaslost.Athirdtimethecablelidabouttwohundredmilespaidout，wheweheAgamemnon，aurofIreland.

Finallyathirdattemptwasmade，withsuchsuccessthatthewholecablewaslaidwithoutabreak，andseveralmessageswereflashedthroughnearlysevenhundredleaguesofosuddeceased.
FaithnowseemeddeadexthebreastofCyrusW.Field，awofriehsuchpersisteheyersuadedmentofurnishcapitalforarialevenagainstwhatseemedtheirbetterjudgment.Aneeriorcableoern，whichsteamedslowlyouttosea，payingoutassheadvahioatilwithinsixhundredmilesofNewfoundlaheappedandsank.
Nedbyallthesedifficulties，Mr.Fieldithawill，anizedanewpany，andmadeaneeriortoanythingbeforeused，andonJuly13，1866，wasbegurialwhidedwiththefollowioNewYork：
